Kenneth Melvin “Mel” Lucas, (71), of LaGrange, passed away on Oct. 14, 2022.
He was born on Nov. 15, 1950 to the late Guy Kenneth Lucas and Vivian Oliver Lucas in Manchester, Georgia.
Mr. Lucas graduated from Manchester High School. He immediately began working for GTE in South Georgia.
He enlisted in the United Stated Army and was a teletype operator in Germany for three years. After his military career he worked for Cable Vision with the Hurst Brothers in LaGrange. He worked as a Lineman for EMC and the City of LaGrange. His skills led him to work for Emerson Network Power in the Configuration Department.
He enjoyed working directly with engineers and building DSL and Internet Communication Cabinets for Bell South. Emerson moved to McAllen, Texas, and offered to send him to school.
At 60, he graduated from Columbus College/West Georgia Tech with honors as a Master Barber. Recently he was the owner and operator of Mel’s Barber Shop in LaGrange.
Survivors include his wife, Becky Britt Lucas; brothers, Bob Lucas and his wife Joy Brooks Lucas of LaGrange, and Barry Lucas of Warm Springs; sisters, Kim Carlisle of Manchester, and Nancy Lucas Neely of Manchester; nieces and nephews, Guy Carlisle (Shelly), Caleb Neely (Angel), Sharlie Neely Rader and her husband Brandyn Raider, Jessie Hale and her Husband Josh Hale, and Haley Jo Lucas; great nieces and nephews, Addie Rader and Eli Hale; extended family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Johnny Carlisle; sister-in-law, SeGay Lucas.
The family will have visitation from 10 A.M. – 11 A.M. on Mon. Oct. 17, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in West Point, Georgia.
Funeral services will begin at 11 A.M. at the church with Rev. Erik May officiating. Interment will follow at Meriwether Memory Gardens in Manchester, Georgia.
