If you see a forest of Christmas trees taking over Lafayette Square in LaGrange, don’t worry. Elves aren’t invading. The trees are part of a fundraising campaign to support Circles of Troup County called Tinsel Trail.

Tinsel Trail is a display of 50 live Christmas trees in LaGrange square where local businesses, groups and individuals have sponsored and decorated trees with different themes. The fun display is meant to give attention to the many partners and supporters of Circles while sharing some holiday cheer.

The event is modeled after similar displays in Huntsville and Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The tree decorating began on Friday and will continue through Saturday. Tinsel Trail will continue until the beginning of the year.

Margaret Goodlet, fundraising coordinator at Circles, said most of the trees are being decorated by the sponsors themselves, but some are being decorated by a local nonprofit on their behalf. For example, the Midweek Manna Class at First Presbyterian Church sponsored a tree that was decorated by Get Troup Reading in their stead.

Get Troup Reading decorated the tree with children’s books. Most decorated their trees with on-brand themes for their organizations or business, but some simply chose time-honored traditional holiday decorations.

Others decorated their tree in memory of a lost loved one.

Regardless of the reason for sponsoring a tree, all of the funds from the event will go to a good cause. Circles of Troup County is a local nonprofit that helps people get themselves out of poverty through education and empowerment.
