Troup suffocated North Clayton on Friday with stifling defense to earn a dominant 58-16 victory.
It was all Tigers early as they blanked the Eagles in the first quarter to take a commanding 19-0 lead. Troup continued to pour it on in the second quarter and the lead was 34-6 at halftime. It did not get better for the Eagles in the second half as they could only muster 10 points and never got back into the game.
Troup found a rhythm on defense early and never relented, and it was the same way on offense. Angie Dowdell and Alexica Murphy sparked the offense and each scored six points in the first quarter to spark the blowout. Dowdell led all scorers with 17 points while Murphy was second with 16.
Raygen Godfrey scored a basket in every quarter and finished the game with 12 points. Autumn Bulloch got off to a hot start, scoring five of her nine points in the first quarter. Jaz Williams finished the game with two points to round out the scoring for the Tigers.
After losing two in a row, the Tigers were reeling a bit and needed a region win, which they got on Friday night. Troup improved to 9-10 overall and 4-5 in region play. The Tigers are currently fourth in the region standings and will have a game Tuesday against Whitewater, who is currently at the bottom of the region.
