The LaGrange boys soccer team rolled over Northside (Columbus) 5-0 on Thursday to start off the 2023 season on the right foot.
Senior Davis Knight was the star of the show with a hat-trick of goals and an assist. He popped up everywhere in attack and is looking to build on a junior year in which he led the Grangers in both categories.
It did not take long for the Grangers and Knight to get on the scoreboard when he buried a chance with 18:02 left in the first half. A minute later, Knight had his second to put the Grangers in complete control.
LaGrange controlled the rest of the first half and took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Knight completed the hat-trick less than four minutes into the second half. Cade Hollstrom opened his account with a little over 10 minutes left in the game before Jan Alvarado got a goal with 38 seconds left to go along with an assist on Knight’s second goal of the game.
Bo Beall, Jordan Bryant and Brenner Martinez all had an assist apiece in the game. Starting goalkeeper Reese Lester combined with freshman Andrew Aaron completed the shutout for LaGrange.
The Grangers had to brave the rainy conditions to get the win and start the season 1-0. LaGrange will be back on the pitch next Tuesday on the road to an elite McIntosh team.
