Callaway came close to pulling off a furious fourth quarter rally against East Coweta on Wednesday but ultimately suffered a 53-48 home loss.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle with the Cavaliers taking a narrow 15-13 lead after the opening eight minutes of play. Both offenses completely stalled out in the second quarter with neither team scoring in double figures as the teams ended up tied at 20 heading into halftime. 

The Cavaliers faltered to start the second half and let momentum swing all the way in East Coweta’s favor. Callaway ended up in a 10 point deficit to start the fourth quarter. 

The Cavaliers were able to get the lead back down to two points late in the fourth quarter largely due to the heroics of DeShun Coleman who scored 12 of his 27 points in the final quarter. Coleman did everything for the Cavaliers offense on the night despite the team coming up short. 

Treyonn Tucker was second on the team in scoring with six points — all from the free throw line. Javontae Parker and Korey Jackson each finished with four points. Bryceton Sanders scored five points and D’Arcy Harris had two to round out the scoring for the Cavaliers.

Callaway fell to 11-11 overall and will be riding a three-game losing streak into the region tournament. The Cavaliers finished second in region 5-2A with a 10-4 record in the region and have already locked up a playoff spot but will be battling it out in the region tournament to see what seed they will end up getting.
