LAGRANGE – Five LaGrange Academy baseball players earned a spot on the GISA all-Region 1-AA baseball team that was selected this week.
Those five players helped LaGrange Academy finish second in the region and earn homefield advantage for the opening round of the GISA state playoffs.
Among LaGrange Academy’s all-region honorees were the three seniors, Zach Callaghan, Colby Heath and Payton Barr, as well as Nick Keating and Mason Brown, who will return next season.
Callaghan and Heath were both busy men during the 2015-2016 school year.
They both played soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter, and baseball in the spring.
They helped the soccer team win a state championship, the basketball team make it to the state quarterfinals, and the baseball team reach the state playoffs.
Barr was a multi-sport athlete as well, playing soccer and baseball.
“It’s great. You get to play baseball, or whatever sport it is,” Callaghan said of playing three sports. “You only get to play so many games. It makes you work harder, knowing you only have so many games left.”
While Callaghan, Heath and Barr will be tough to replace, the Warriors should be in good shape with six players returning, including Keating and Brown.
