Callaway cruised to a 68-53 win over Landmark Christian in the region tournament third-place game on Friday.
The Cavaliers defense stifled Landmark Christian’s early, which allowed the Cavaliers to capture a 14-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was a stalemate as Callaway maintained its nine point lead heading into halftime.
The Cavaliers defense ramped up once again in the third quarter, which allowed them to take a double-digit lead into the final quarter. Callaway never allowed Landmark Christian back in the game and closed out the game in the fourth quarter with clinical free throw shooting.
Exavious Reed has missed a lot of the season with injuries but was crucial for Callaway on Friday, leading the team in scoring with 16 points despite not having a point in the first quarter. Tyrus Edwards initiated the offense for the Cavaliers and finished with 15 points. D’Arcy Harris was the other Callaway man in double figures scoring and finished with 14 points.
Callaway will enter the playoff as a three seed. The Cavaliers will be on the road on Tuesday or Wednesday for the opening round of the playoffs.
