LPD warns about possible home security scam

The LaGrange Police Department is warning citizens about a possible home security scam.

On Monday, at approximately 12:11 a.m., LPD officers responded to the neighborhood of E Yorktown Drive in reference to a possible scam. The investigation determined that on Friday, one White male and one possible Asian male, were claiming to be representatives with Brinks Home Security.

They were seen in a newer model white Chevrolet truck without company emblems displayed. The subjects attempted to obtain a signed agreement and a blank personal check, according to the press release. When questioned about the agreement services and blank check, the subjects became confrontational and unprofessional. The subjects refused to leave a business card and stated they were too busy to be contacted later by the citizen.

During the investigation, the LPD officer contacted Brinks Home Security and was told that they do not normally send representatives door-to-door to elicit business, and there were no representatives going to residences in the LaGrange area.

“Please be aware of scammers trying to sell home security systems,” the LPD press release said. “Verify with the company the representatives claim to represent. Representatives with Brinks Home Security will provide their names and badge numbers for the company. Do not provide information or payments if they do not appear to be legitimate.
