A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a man accused of killing a local woman’s dog.

The Troup County Marshal’s Office has confirmed that warrants have been issued for Jeremy Lynn Parker for aggravated animal cruelty (felony).

Chief Marshal Jorge Olmo Novoa said that they were told by the dog’s owners that it had been left in the care of Parker when it died. The dog was later confirmed to have blunt force trauma, which is believed to have caused its death.

Olmo Novoa said they are uncertain if the dog had been kicked or hit with an object.

“We don’t know. The dog showed blunt force trauma, but we don’t know why or how,” Olmo Novoa. “We’ve got to talk to him first.”

The marshals are looking for Parker to find out exactly what happened to the dog. A warrant has since been issued for Parker’s arrest.

According to the marshal’s office, Parker took the dog and hid in the woods after the authorities were called.

Olmo Novoa said Parker then called for a ride and a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle he was in as he attempted to leave the area.

Parker was then briefly questioned about the incident, but at that time marshals were forced to let him go as they didn’t have evidence of the blunt force trauma at the time.
