In 2019, Isaac Bohrer took a leap of faith and moved to LaGrange to be a part of the inaugural lacrosse team at LaGrange College. Four years later, Bohrer is a soon-to-be graduate of the college and is on his way to beginning a career as a registered nurse at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta.

As he prepares to graduate Saturday, Bohrer said he is grateful for his time at LaGrange College and feels prepared for his upcoming career, where he’ll be able to help patients in rehab.

“I’m very excited to graduate. I feel like LaGrange set me up to be the best version of myself. I got a nice job going out of college, and I’m very excited to start my journey of life,” Bohrer said. “At the same time, I feel scared, but like I am ready for the next step in life.”

Originally from Fayetteville, Bohrer said his friendship with lacrosse coach Brandon Sewell and the nursing program brought him to the school.

“I was very close friends with Coach Sewell. He had just got the job there and asked me if I wanted to join him on the journey to starting the inaugural team at LaGrange. When we began that, I knew I wanted to go into nursing, so I got to have the best of both worlds being able to participate in lacrosse and pursue nursing,” Bohrer said.

As his time in college comes to an end, Bohrer said he will miss playing the lacrosse and friendships he has made.

“I’ve played sports my whole entire life. To go from playing sports every single day, and being in a competitive atmosphere to suddenly not playing anymore, will be a big adjustment for me — I will miss it and being in this close-knit community,” Bohrer said. “I have made amazing friendships here and hope to keep those connections as I move on to the next stage of life.”

Bohrer said he feels the nursing department helped him on the way to starting his career.

“I feel like LaGrange has really prepared me to take this role. Every time I had a question or needed guidance, there was always someone there that could help me,” Bohrer said.

After graduation, Bohrer will be working as a registered nurse in the comprehensive rehab unit.

“I knew I wanted to receive a job at the Shepherd Center because of how amazing the hospital is and all the stories that have come out of Shepherd Center. Positions in the ICU were full, so I took the next closest option in the comprehensive rehab unit. It contains both spinal cord and acquired brain injury patients. When I found that out, I knew this was the route that I wanted to go in to the best of both worlds,” Bohrer said.
