Preston Pressley signs to play baseball at Gordon State

LaGrange senior baseball player Preston Pressley signed to play at Gordon State on Wednesday. It was an easy decision for Pressley, who gets to reunite with an old teammate.
“I know a player at Gordon State, and I look up to Zack Thompson, and he goes there. And I couldn’t imagine him making a bad decision. Once I got this opportunity, it felt right to follow him there.”
Pressley has been a steady hand for the Grangers during his time with the team but has taken his game to new heights during his final campaign in blue and white. He is currently leading the team in batting average and on base percentage among players that have played in at least half of the team’s games this season.
Pressley can hit to every level of the field. Singles and doubles? No problem, but he has also shown the ability to go yard, including a key region game against Fayette County earlier this season.
Individual accolades was never something that Pressley chased, but with the season winding down they are coming his way as he was recently named to second team all-region for region 4-4A. The second base standout has been impressive with his bat and his glove to help earn these honors.
Pressley prides himself on being a member of a team and to be part of a large class of ‘23 baseball players that are taking their talents to the next level is special for him. To grow up on the diamond with this group of guys has meant the world to him.
“I grew up with him and I mean, it was always great competition all the way growing up, and they helped me get better and I hope I helped him.”
Pressley’s team first attitude extends beyond his senior class. He has moved all around the field for the Grangers during his time on the diamond.
“Last year, he played out of position because we needed him to, and this year is on second base,” LaGrange coach Donnie Branch said. “He can also play outfield and that might honestly be his most natural position and where he ends up playing college.”
While Pressley is excited and looking forward to his future, he stands grounded in the present. The Grangers have at least two more games on the docket and the potential for a few more. Pressley is already a part of two of the best teams in program history, but wants to etch his name into Granger lore forever and capture the second state title in program history.
“These are some of the best memories of my life,” Pressley said. “Playing on the Branch and everyone being there, it feels like everyone’s just on top of you when you’re playing there. It’s a great feeling.”
