LAGRANGE – LaGrange High head baseball coach David Smart, along with a handful of the players who will provide the foundation for the future of the program, made the trip to Rome last week for a baseball camp.

LaGrange, along with a number of other high-school teams, participated in a team camp that was hosted by Berry College.

In addition to getting instruction from a staff that included Berry College head coach David Beasley, the LaGrange players also played four games.

LaGrange finished with a 2-2 record.

“They did a good job,” Smart said. “They competed well, and played hard, and I was proud and excited about that. They picked up some things, and I picked up some things, too.”

Smart said the LaGrange players who made the trip will either be freshmen or sophomores on next year’s team.

“It was a good experience for them, and it was good for me,” Smart said. “I took them by myself, so it was good for me to really get a chance to know the guys.”

Smart said the older players on the team, the juniors and seniors, will be at the University of Alabama-Birmingham for a team camp this week.

That camp will mark the conclusion of LaGrange’s summer baseball program that began earlier this month.
