A man was hit by a police car as he attempted to flee arrest on Lafayette Parkway, near the area of LaGrange Mall, on Tuesday.
The man identified as Kadeem Mitchell, 29, allegedly delivered an unspecified amount of methamphetamine to an undercover police officer. When in an effort to evade arrest, he was hit by a Newnan Police Department car, according to Captain Nathan Taylor with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.
“The Troup County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division, along with the Newnan Police Department Narcotics were conducting an undercover drug operation here,” Captain Nathan Taylor said. “A suspect delivered an unknown amount of methamphetamine. When we attempted to place him under arrest, he fled on foot and ran out into the Lafayette Parkway where he was struck by the vehicle.”
Taylor said Mitchell appeared to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital.
Mitchell will be charged with trafficking methamphetamine and obstruction of law enforcement, he said.
At the time of the incident, Mitchell, originally from Lutherville, had an active warrant for his arrest for violation of probation.
