Lynsay Leigh Summers and Matthew Garrett Oleson were united in holy matrimony on Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church on the Square in LaGrange with pastor John Samanie officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen Summers of Valley, Alabama, are the parents of the bride. Grandparents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Summers, Ms. Carolyn Shaw, all of Valley, and the late Mr. James Shaw.

Mr. and Mrs. Greg Oleson, of LaGrange, are the parents of the groom. Grandparents of the groom are the late Ms. Doris Brumfield, the late Mr. Everett McNeill, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Oleson.

The bridal processional was to the traditional “Bridal Chorus” by Wagner with the couple’s processional to the traditional “Wedding March.”

The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father. She wore a diamond white A-line gown with sequins, lace and sheer sleeves to the elbow.

Her shoes were emerald green sparkle heels with rhinestone embellishments at the toes. The beading around the edge of her fingertip length veil matched the beading on her gown.

Her bouquet consisted of different types of flowers and accents in various colors. Among these were white and red roses, as well as miniature pine cones and greenery.

Carson Abrams, friend of the bride, of Valley, was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Beth Oleson, sister-in-law of the groom, of LaGrange, and Hannah Grant, cousin of the bride, of Ringgold, Georgia.

The attendants wore floor length chiffon dresses with the skirt an emerald green color, and the lace bodice and cap sleeves champagne in color. They wore nude color heels and carried ivory roses.

Addy Shaw, cousin of the bride, and Anna Claire Oleson, niece of the groom, both of LaGrange, served as flower girls. They wore ivory sleeveless dresses with flowers from the top to the waist, where they each had an emerald green satin sash tied around them with an ivory satin rose on it, and ivory shoes to match. They tossed gold flower petals down the aisle.

Attending the groom as best man was his father, Greg Oleson, of LaGrange. Groomsmen were Michael Oleson, brother of the groom, of LaGrange, and Mark Summers, brother of the bride, of Valley. They wore black tuxedos with emerald green vests and bow ties while the groom wore a black tuxedo with a white vest and bow tie.

Gabe Shaw, cousin of the bride, of LaGrange, was the ring bearer. He matched the groomsmen and carried a white satin pillow with an emerald green ribbon tied on it. The groom’s boutonniere matched the bride’s bouquet in color and arrangement while the groomsmen wore ivory roses in their boutonnieres that matched the bridesmaids’ bouquets.

To begin the ceremony, the bride totally surprised the groom by singing to him the song “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley. The couple then participated in a feet washing ceremony where the groom washed the bride’s feet as a sign of servitude and devotion to her. By allowing him to wash her feet, the bride was humbling herself in servitude as well. This part of the ceremony was officiated by Tracey Deavers, the groom’s pastor at First Baptist Church on the Square.

Before the exchanging of the rings and the vows, the couple then held a Unity Cross ceremony. There were three parts to this cross: the simple outlining structure and base of the cross which represented the strength of the man, the interlaying decorative piece which represented the beauty of the woman, and the three knobs that represented the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, to hold the other two pieces together. This part was officiated by Kevin Summers, uncle of the bride and head pastor at Harvest Family Worship Center in Morgantown, West Virginia.

John Samanie, the bride’s pastor at Happy Valley Baptist Church in Valley, officiated the remainder of the ceremony including the exchanging of the rings and the vows.

A reception was held following the ceremony at Del’Avant Event Center in LaGrange, where the couple had their first dance to “All of Me” by John legend. The bride then danced with her father to “I Loved Her First” by Heartland, and following, the groom danced with his mother to “The Perfect Fan” by the Backstreet Boys.

After a honeymoon trip to Disney World, the couple resides in West Point.
