Deputy Carrla Querry received multiple well-earned standing ovations during the Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday for her life-saving heroics in late June.

Commission Chairman Patrick Crews read a proclamation detailing Querry’s heroics and naming July 11, 2023, as Carrla Querry Day in Troup County.

On Friday, June 30, Troup County Sheriff’s Deputy Carrla Querry demonstrated courage and heroism, when she took action saving the lives of a man and woman during an emergency, Crews said.

Several thunderstorms passed through Troup County during the afternoon of June 30, knocking down trees, causing power outages and several vehicle accidents. One of the accidents resulted in a truck catching fire and trapping two individuals. Querry was first on the scene, and without hesitation retrieved her fire extinguisher to help contain the fire but discovered two occupants trapped inside, he said.

Risking her own life, Querry broke the windows of the vehicle and safely removed the occupants from inside with the assistance of bystanders before the truck was totally engulfed in flames.

Querry and TCSO Cpl. Gabe Garner then moved the victims to a safe distance further away from the flames.

“[We] recognize that if it had not been for the fearless and valued actions of Deputy Querry, the incident could have resulted in severe injury or loss of life, therefore the Troup County Board of Commissioners hereby acknowledge and honor the shining example of selfless bravery exhibited by Deputy Carrla Querry and proclaim July the 11th, 2023, is Deputy Carrla Querry Day in Troup County,” Crews said, reading the proclamation.

Troup County Fire Chief Michael Strickland also presented Querry with the Lifesaving Award for her actions.
