The Troup softball team had no problems winning its second game in as many days, trouncing Fayette County 16-0 for an important region victory.

Kennedy McCoy was the star of the show. She got her first start on the mound of the season and delivered a big performance, pitching a four-inning complete game shutout. She struck out eight batters and had a no-hitter going into the fourth and final inning.

McCoy showed great poise to not allow a run in the fourth as Fayette County was able to load the bases.

She was helped by her offense that was rolling from the opening inning until the final one.

The Tigers scored six runs in the opening inning to lay the gauntlet down early. Zoe Graham got the action started when she reached on an error to drive in the opening run.

The Tigers offense was off and running from there. Kaitlyn Smalley grounded out to drive in the second run. Madeira Sirmons drove in the third with a double.

Sirmons came through in a big way on Wednesday night against Bowdon and kept up her hot offensive run by going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Sheniyah Philpot and Gracie Baker each got a one-run hit in the inning before Baker eventually made it home in the inning on a passed ball.

Troup’s offense did not slow down from there, scoring two runs in the second inning on a passed ball and a Sirmons one-run single.

The Tigers offense just kept on chugging, scoring six runs in the third. Baker scored on a passed ball for the opening run of the inning, which made it 9-0.

Smalley hit a one-run single followed by Graham scoring on a wild pitch to make it 12-0. Anna Grace Keller brought the penultimate run of the inning home on a double with Philpot bringing in the final run on a single.

Troup added a 15th run in the top of the fourth when McCoy decided to help her cause from the plate with a one-run double. The Tigers added their 16th and final run when Smalley hit a double to drive in a run in the very same inning.

Smalley was a force of nature from the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Philpot and Baker had two hits apiece while Kitchens, Keller and Kaylee Cardwell all had a hit each.

Troup (4-5) is now 2-2 in region play. The Tigers will have another key region clash next Thursday at home against Trinity Christian.
