Confidence Missionary Baptist Church in LaGrange kicked off National Faith & Blue weekend on Friday morning with the annual pastor’s breakfast with a meal provided by Chick-fil-A.

Sheriff James Woodruff, LPD Major Dale Strickland and LaGrange Mayor Willie Edmondson, among others, spoke during the breakfast.

Two other events will be held the celebrate the annual event that connects law enforcement officers with the faith-based community to help build transparency and inspire trust.

Faith & Blue weekend is a nationwide event created by Movement Forward, Inc. in 2020 in connection with Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) and the U.S. Department of Justice.

One goal of the event is to facilitate partnerships among local law enforcement professionals with residents, businesses and community groups through faith-based organizations.

LaGrange has hosted Faith & Blue events each year since the movement began with previous gatherings at SouthCrest Church, First Baptist Church and Sweetland Amphitheatre.

Members of the public are invited to attend the event, including people of all faiths. 

LPD Chaplain Pastor Michael Jackson said ThreeLife Church on Hogansville Road in LaGrange will host a Faith & Blue worship service on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. and the weekend will close out with a prayer service on Lafayette Square on Monday, Oct. 9 at 5:30 p.m.

The Sunday worship service will include a devotional provided by the Troup County Sheriff’s Office and a message from keynote speaker, former LaGrange Councilwoman Norma Tucker.

On Monday evening, the weekend will be closed out by a community prayer service. Jackson said the public is invited to attend both events, and parents who have lost a child are specifically encouraged to come and light a candle during the prayer vigil.
