The LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on Friday to celebrate the new location of 2BigFeet.

As the name implies, 2BigFeet specializes in oversized footwear. The store, which primarily serves an online customer base, provides footwear in sizes 14 and up.

Founder Brandon Eley said the move has been about five years in the works. The success of the company has allowed them to outgrow their former home of 12 years and move into the new larger location on Corporate Park East Dr. in LaGrange off of Davis Road.

The company purchased the new location in August to accommodate growth and for the new Michael Ellis Footwear brand. The new location holds more than twice the inventory and allows for a larger retail showroom.

Eley and cofounder Neil Moncrief launched the business in LaGrange in 2000. It was Moncrief’s own large feet that inspired the business.

“Neil is a size 16 foot, and he always had a hard time finding shoes growing up,” Eley said. “His mom would take him to Atlanta, Birmingham, Montgomery and Macon. They’d have to drive two or three hours away to find something in their size,” Eley said.

Eley noted that you can’t just walk into a regular shoe store and ask for a size 16. Even if they happen to have a pair, it’s inevitably some really old ugly basketball shoe from three or four years ago, he said.

“It was through that personal struggle of his that we decided to create a website to sell shoes to guys with big feet,” Eley said.

About 99% of the store’s sales are online, but they do have a retail store for anybody who’s in the area.

Brandon said they often have customers coming in from out of state. They will stop by and try on a bunch of shoes. They’ll often spend a couple of hours because they’ve never had the opportunity to try on shoes in a retail store before with a selection of shoes.

“Currently we have up to size 21, but we’re always looking for larger sizes,” Eley said.

The new Michael Ellis footwear line will start with sneakers going up to size 26 E and dress shoes up to size 18-6E but Eley said they are looking at manufacturing processes that would allow for larger sizes up to 24 or 25.

Eley said they currently offer all types of shoes, casual, dress, work, sandals, house slippers and anything you can think of.
