Troup High School’s JROTC commander has resigned following an investigation into whether he served alcohol to students and inappropriately flirted with a female student after the school’s senior prom.

According to a Troup County School System press release, on Aug. 17, 2023, it was reported to the TCSS Human Resources Department by a Troup High School administrator that Major David Frick, the senior Air Force JROTC commander at Troup High had been present at a small party after the senior prom in April with several THS students. The press release said that it was reported that Frick had provided alcohol to students and was dancing flirtatiously with one of the female students. Frick was placed on administrative leave the following day, Aug. 18, pending investigation. The case was turned over to the LaGrange Police Department, the Division for Family and Children Services (DFACS) and the Georgia Professional Standards Board. The TCSS Security Director also investigated.

As a result of a joint investigation between the LPD and the TCSS Security Director, it was verified by the TCSS Security Director that alcohol had been provided to students and that there was inappropriate flirtation between the teacher and one student, according to the press release from TCSS. After reviewing the investigative findings, Frick resigned from TCSS on Sept. 13, 2023.

The case is still under investigation by the LaGrange Police Department.
