For early risers and those who prefer to work off their holiday feasts before they eat them, the 13th annual Turkey Trot is set to return for 2023 on Thanksgiving morning.
The fun run hosted by The Inner Path yoga and fitness studio has been a beloved LaGrange tradition for more than a decade. Originally created by yoga studio owner Lisa Alford as a fun event with friends, the event has grown to become a charity run through the streets of LaGrange supporting a variety of causes.
More than a decade ago, after Alford couldn’t make it to Atlanta’s annual half marathon held each year on Thanksgiving Day, she and a group of friends decided to run on their own and ended up with dozens joining them, so it became an annual tradition.
The annual run has evolved into a charity fundraiser that sponsors a variety of causes. This year, the organizers will accept donations to help provide communication boards for local parks.
The donations are completely optional, and no registration is required to participate. The race is meant to be more of a fun run than a serious competition, though some do strive to take home the flamingo given away to the winner in years past.
The run is open to runners or walkers of all skill levels. Participants can choose from a 2-mile route or a 5-mile course starting outside the yoga studio at 206 Smith St. in LaGrange at 7 a.m. on Thanksgiving.
