The Callaway girls basketball team had no trouble on the road at Valley (AL) on Saturday, defeating the Rams 63-34.
The Cavaliers were able to get out to an early lead punctuated by a deep 3-pointer at the first quarter buzzer by Aniyah McFarland that put them up 15-7 heading to the second quarter.
The lead only got bigger for the Cavaliers from there as they were able to take a 26-10 lead into halftime.
Callaway never looked back in the second half either, building its lead to over 20 points heading into the final quarter of play which allowed coach Deyano Martin to experiment with some different lineups and allow some of his younger, inexperienced players some key varsity minutes early in the season.
The Rams offense struggled and it took almost half of the second quarter before they were able to crack double-digit scoring. The full-court press from the Cavaliers caused all sorts of problems for the Rams.
It was a balanced attack for the Cavaliers offense with 10 different players getting in the scoring column. After scoring 35 points in the season opener, Lacey Thomas had a whiter game on Saturday, but still led the team in scoring with 13 points.
No other Cavaliers reached double-digit scoring in the game, but Kenzie Howard and Keiyunna Maddox each scored nine points apiece.
The Rams were led by Aniyah Robinson with 13 points and Kayden Dooley with 10.
Callaway (2-0) (1-0) will be back in action on Tuesday in an important region game against McNair at home.
