Sweet revenge. After losing a nail-biter on the road to Trinity Christian of Griffin last Friday, the LaFayette Christian Cougars needed a response and got that on their home court when they outlasted the Lions 75-46.

After setting the school record for points last time out with 49, Bruno Tellez delivered a strong encore performance against the Lions with 23 points on Monday. Tellez scored from behind the arc, from the free-throw line, in the paint, at the elbow, wherever he wanted to as he continued his quality start to the season. 

Joshua Zapata ran the show for the Cougars, finishing with 28 points and consistently kept the offense on track. He crucially sunk all eight of his free throws in the fourth quarter to help preserve the in for the Cougars. 

After racing out to an early lead, the Cougars had to weather the storm and multiple comeback bids to earn the victory on Monday. Lafayette Christian hoped out to a 20-11 lead after the first quarter punctuated by a 3-pointer from Zapata as time expired. Zapata set the tone early with 12 points in the first quarter before passing the baton to Tellez, who had 16 points in the second. 

Despite leading by 5+ points at the end of every quarter, the Lions put together multiple runs to tie or take the lead in the game in the second half, but the Cougars always had a response.

Vakiel Hammett had a quietly good night on the offensive end with 12 points and two 3-pointers. Davide Karvelas also chipped in with seven points and drilled a big 3-pointer in the third quarter to stop a run by the Lions.  

LCS (4-3) (2-1) will not return to action until the new year when the Cougars travel to take on Strong Rock on Jan. 2.
