LaGrange City Manager Meg Kelsey submitted her resignation to the mayor and city council Tuesday, Dec. 12, according to press release from the City of LaGrange. Kelsey has accepted a job offer from the City of Newnan. 

Kelsey has been with the City of LaGrange for more than 27 years, since 1996.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunities I have had to grow and develop professionally in LaGrange. However, a new opportunity has emerged, and it is with a heavy heart that I have decided to resign from my current position.” Kelsey said in a statement. “I hope that I have added some value to the City’s tradition of excellence. I am grateful for the support and the tireless efforts of the men and women of the City of LaGrange.” 

Kelsey began as city manager in 2016 and focused on creating quality-of-life projects. She has been instrumental in the development and construction of The Thread Trail, as well as many park and streetscape improvements throughout the city. She also created Leaving LaGrange Better Than We Found It, an award-winning monthly litter cleanup initiative, and LaGrange 101, a free 6-week citizen education class that offers the community a look at local government. In spite of many challenges, she has also continued to keep the City of LaGrange in strong, financial condition.

Kelsey’s last day will be Jan. 12. The press release said the mayor and council will name an interim city manager and begin a search for her replacement immediately.
