Chewy’s Freeze Dried Candy opened its doors to the public on Jan. 1 offering LaGrange sweet treats and surprises for all.
Chewy’s is a one-of-a-kind candy store offering a fresh and unique spin on traditional treats. Christina Cindrick, owner of the candy store, said she wanted to bring the internet phenomenon of freeze-dried candy to LaGrange after noticing a scarcity of the treats among the community.
“There’s not a lot of freeze-dried products around here or anywhere near here,” Cindrick said. “My family and I actually went looking for some freeze dried candy, and we couldn’t find any. We went to order some from Utah and about five of my large bags were $100 when we were checking out, so I figured I could make these products a lot cheaper for everybody.”
After buying a freeze dryer and a variety of treats, Cindrick began to search for opportunities to promote her new freeze-dried products in the community.
“So we started to sell at the Lee County flea market every weekend about six months ago,” Cindrick said. “That’s where we got our first break, and I didn’t want to stop there.”
“We started testing the waters to see what potential was in the community and when I got customer’s reactions, it was just overwhelming. They loved it. I was like ‘OK, well maybe we could get a storefront by January, and we that’s what we did.”
Thanks to the help of her husband and sister, Cindrick began packaging freeze-dried treats at home to display in her new store located on 1304 Hogansville Road.
Cendrick encourages everyone in the community with a sweet tooth to drop by the shop and try something new.
“Just come in and take a look,” Cindrick said. “My prices are a lot cheaper than what you might find somewhere else and the candy is fresher. We have a cottage food license, so our treats are made in-home and are produced based on demand.”
