Mrs. Nancy Milliken Brown Standard, age 76 of LaGrange passed away on February 12, 2024, at home surrounded by family.
Mrs. Standard was born May 29, 1947, in Washington D.C. to the late Floyd Louis Bubel and Louise Hollyfield Milliken (Bill Milliken). She is affectionately known as Mom, Nancy, Nance, Mimi, Mawmaw, Fancy Nancy, Aunt Nancy, Nancy Lee, Mrs. Brown, and to many more a friend.
Nancy graduated from Southwest DeKalb High School in Decatur, GA class of 65. After high school, she became a devoted Air Force wife where she was stationed with her husband, the late Robert S. Brown Jr. in Rapid City, SD. Not long after her time in South Dakota, Nancy settled in LaGrange, GA where she lived for the last 50 years.
During her time in LaGrange, she was employed with Milliken in the cost accounting department at the Milliken Design Center. Nancy was loved by many, but loved others even more. Nancy’s love extended outward to her family, friends, and animals. Nancy never met a stranger and would not only give you the shirt off her back but even the framed print off her wall. Nancy loved the Lord and was most fulfilled when serving others. Nancy and her 4-year-old daughter left their home in LaGrange, GA and moved in with her parents to care for her terminally ill mother. She became the main caregiver for her mom, dad, and 3 younger siblings for 6 months preceding her mother’s death. Her love and influence brought her 2 youngest sisters to make LaGrange their home in later years. Her home was open to anyone looking for a “soft place to fall” for friends and family in need. Over the years, many would move into her home to get their feet back on solid ground, and with her love and support, they did. She was a true southern lady who was well-known for opening her home to endless celebrations and family gatherings. She enjoyed entertaining and hosting many events. Most importantly, those who loved her knew her inner strength was fed by her strong faith and love for the Lord.
“We love because he first loved us,” 1 John 4:19
