After dropping their season opener, the Troup Tigers were hungry for a victory on Friday when they traveled to take on Rome High School and got just that with a 10-0 win.

It did not take Troup long to break the deadlock in the bottom of the first after Tripp Cummings sat down the side to start the game. Courtney Wilson grounded out to drive in Jake Perry. 

After a quiet second inning, Troup’s offense got right back to work in the third, scoring four runs to blow the game open. Carson Walker drove in a run with a single and Garrison Edwards scored on an error to make it 3-0. Fisher Baltzell decided to get in on the fun, driving in two runs with a single.

The Tiger offense did not stop there. Troup added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Wilson scored on a wild pitch to open the scoring in the fifth. Chase Mosley hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the second run of the inning. Baltzell stole home for the final run of the inning to make it 8-0.

The Tigers ended the game by run rule when they added their ninth and tenth runs in the bottom of the sixth. Edwards scored on an error and Ethan Hunt was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to wrap the game up.

Cummings had a no-hitter going through four innings, but Rome finally broke through in the fifth inning. It was a sensational performance on the mound as he pitched six innings while allowing just the one hit on seven strikeouts.

Edwards and Torrieon Delaney led the Troup offense with two hits apiece. Walker, Mosley and Baltzell each had a hit. 

Despite not getting a hit, Wilson drove in two runs and scored three more.

Troup (1-1) will be right back in action on Saturday with a doubleheader. The Tigers will be right back out there in the morning with a game on Saturday at 10 a.m. against North Cobb and then a game right after that versus Cambridge.
