For the second time in two days, LaGrange High beat Columbus on the diamond. After winning on a walk-off in Granger Park on Thursday, LaGrange traveled to Columbus on Friday and earned a 4-1 win.
The Grangers opened the scoring in the top of the second when Gryson Cockrell hit a single to drive in two runs.
LaGrange made it 3-0 in the top of the third inning courtesy of a Brandon Bennett grounding into a fielder’s choice to drive home Robbie Parker.
The Grangers took a 4-0 lead in the top of the fifth when Parker scored on an error.
Columbus finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth but struggled to deal with Parker’s dominance on the mound.
Parker pitched a dominant complete game, striking out 10 while only allowing three hits and one earned run.
Cockrell and Grady Westmoreland both had strong showings from the plate, going 2-for-4. Westmoreland had a triple to his name while Cockrell stole three bases.
Jackson Bozeman, Mason Calhoun and Parker all had a hit apiece.
LaGrange just keeps on winning and has won six in a row to start the 2024 campaign. The Grangers will host Central Phenix City (AL) next Thursday as they look to keep their undefeated start to the season alive.
