It was a short evening for the Callaway baseball team as they beat Towers 17-0 in just 2.5 innings of action for the Cavaliers’ fifth win in a row. It was not quite as short as they would have liked as Towers were late arrivals.
It did not take long for Callaway to break the deadlock, scoring nine runs in the first inning to take a commanding lead. Luke Taylor scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the first to get the Cavaliers off and running. A passed ball and an error allowed the next two runs to score for the Cavaliers. Blake Harrington hit a one-run single to make it 4-0.
A fifth run scored on a passed ball before a double from Brantin Swanson brought home a sixth. Two more runs scored on wild pitches and another on a passed ball to make it 9-0.
The second inning was more of the same as Callaway put eight runs past Towers to take a commanding 17-0 lead.
Taylor got the action started in the second when he walked with the bases loaded. Slade Hunt followed this with a two-run double to make it 12-0. Senior Bryce Hubbard got in on the fun with a two-run double of his own.
Brody Swanson brought a run home with a single and Julian Dukes brought home the final two runs of the inning with a double.
Hunt and Brantin Swanson led the offensive charge for the Cavaliers as both generated two hits in the game. Hubbard, Dukes, Harrington, Wesley Williams and Brody Swanson had a hit apiece.
Williams got the start on the mound for the Cavaliers and pitched a dominant two innings, allowing just one hit on three strikeouts. Hunt pitched the final inning, slamming the door on Towers.
Callaway (5-2) (2-0) is on a roll after dropping its first two games of the season by a combined four runs. The Cavaliers will be looking to make it six in a row on Wednesday when they travel to take on Shaw in Columbus.
