For the first time in 2024, the LaGrange baseball team has lost a game. The Grangers fell to Central (Phenix City) 8-2 in the opening game of the LaGrange Toyota Invitational.

The Grangers were put to the test early with Central scoring four runs in the top of the first. By the end of the second inning, LaGrange trailed 5-0.

The Grangers offense showed signs of life in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs. Rob Skinner opened the scoring with a one-run double to left field. Cooper Stephens followed this with a one-run double of his own to cut the deficit to 5-2.

The Grangers were able to keep the Red Devils offense at bay until they added three more runs in the sixth to make it 8-2.

Stephens led the way for the LaGrange offense, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Tanner Langley, Mason Calhoun and Skinner all had a hit apiece.

Caden Wood got the start on the mound for the Grangers, pitching five innings while allowing five hits on three strikeouts. Robbie Parker and Grady Westmoreland both saw time on the mound in relief.

LaGrange’s first loss of the season sees them fall to 6-1. The Grangers will be right back in action on Friday for day two of the LaGrange Toyota Invitational. Lagrange is set to play Gadsden City at 5:30 p.m.
