LaGrange’a cunning ruthless display of offensive prowess was on full display in a rain-soaked Callaway Stadium on Tuesday as the Grangers carved up Trinity Christian for a 6-2 region victory.
Aidan Collins opened the scoring just seven minutes into the game when he latched on to a pass from freshman star Elvis Castillo.
LaGrange doubled its lead five minutes later when Castillo dispatched and assist from Cade Hollstrom.
Collins got his second with 12 minutes left in the first half when his looping shot made it just past the fingertips of the Lions goalkeeper and nestled into the side netting. The Grangers would grab a fourth on the eve of halftime as Luke McSpadden chested a shot through the goalkeeper’s legs on a corner kick from Castillo.
It was another sensational all-around performance for Castillo, who had two goals and two assists on the evening. His second goal was one of true beauty as he ripped a shot from behind midfield seconds after the Lions scored their second. A bewildered and shocked LaGrange bench took a second to even react to what their talented talisman had done.
Castillo now leads the team with 12 goals on the season while also contributing five assists in just seven games this season.
The slight blemish on the overall performance for the LaGrange was the fact that the defense conceded two cheap goals late in the second half.
Romans Outland also had a strong game, pounding on the gates in the first half and forcing multiple top saves from the Lions’ goalkeeper before finally breaking through with the first goal of the second half as he coolly dispatched a shot into the lower 90 almost halfway through the second half.
LaGrange is back over .500 (4-3) for the first time since the opening night win over Northside. The Grangers are a perfect 2-0 in region play and will have another pivotal region clash at Callaway Stadium on Thursday as Starr’s Mill comes to town.
