It had to be him. Callaway’s region opener against Towers was as thrilling as the 4-3 final score line showed and it was the Cavaliers’ senior captain Greyson Batchelor who led the way once more.
The second half saw Batchelor score a couple of massive games for the Cavaliers. The first came with 37 minutes left in the game as he hit a gorgeous free kick from 30 yards out that found the back of the net to put Callaway up 3-2 just a minute after the Titans had leveled the match.
The second, which proved to be the winner, came on a penalty kick with just 12 minutes left in the game.
It was the hat trick capped for Batchelor who also scored a goal in the first half to put Callaway up 2-0.
Journee Jordan opened the scoring just minutes into the match.
Rickey Vaughn found himself on the stat sheet with an assist for playing Batchelor in for his first goal of the night.
Brayden Morris made nine saves in total and countless other crucial plays in goal. The team rewarded their keeper’s efforts by storming him in goal when the final buzzer rang.
This was a massive win for the Cavaliers as they lost an encounter with Towers last year which hurt them in the final region standings.
Callaway is now 4-3 overall and 1-0 in region play. The Cavaliers will be back in action next Tuesday on the road to Redan.
