Hubbard fans 10, Callaway extends winning streak to eight games

It was a clean and quick night for the Callaway baseball team on Thursday as the Cavaliers routed Eagle’s Landing 10-0 for a region victory in a game that lasted only five innings.
Callaway quickly opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Luke Taylor scored on a passed ball to open the scoring followed by Wesley Williams hitting a sacrifice fly to drive in the second.
The offense kept on rolling from there and Callaway made it 6-0 with four runs in the following inning. Taylor and Slade Hunt hit back-to-back one-run singles to make it 4-0. Brantin Swanson walked with the bases loaded to drive in the following run before Williams hit a one-run single to round out the scoring in the inning.
Callaway could not find a way to score in the third, but got right back to work in the fourth with two runs. Hunt scored on a passed ball and Julian Dukes drove in a run with a double to extend the Callaway lead out to eight runs.
The Cavaliers ended the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth with Williams walking with the bases loaded and Hung scoring on a passed bal.
Hunt showed a tremendous ability to run the bases on Thursday, scoring four runs and stealing two bases.
Williams led the team with three RBIs. Taylor, Hunt, Dukes, Harrington, Dukes and Brody Swanson all had a hit apiece for the Cavaliers.
Bryce Hubbard pitched all five innings on the mound for Callaway, striking out 10 batters while allowing just three hits.
Callaway (8-2) is now on an eight game winning streak and is undefeated in region play (5-0). The Cavaliers are set to play rivals Heard County on the road Saturday, weather permitting.
