The Callaway baseball team flipped the script on Landmark Christian Thursday. After losing to their region rivals on Tuesday, Callaway hammered Landmark at home Thursday 11-1 for some sweet revenge. 

It’s a monumental victory that gets Callaway back in the hunt for a region title.

The Cavaliers got on the board in the bottom of the first with a par of runs courtesy of Slade Hunt, who hit a triple that drove in the opening run and then scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0.

The Cavaliers doubled their lead in the second with another two runs. Cass Fuller drove in the opening run of the inning with a single. Lashun Gates hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning to send Fuller home and give Callaway a 4-0 lead.

It looked like the Eagles might get back in the game when they scored a run in the top of the third, but the Cavaliers were having none of it.

Callaway proceeded to blow the game open with six runs in the fourth inning — all with two outs — to take a commanding 10-1 lead. An error scored the first run followed by a Bryce Hubbard two-run double and the Cavaliers’ offense stayed hot from there.

Julian Dukes drove home the fourth run of the inning with a single. Brantin Swanson doubled, scoring a run, and Blake Harrington hit a one-run single to make it 10-1 heading to the fifth inning.

The Cavaliers ended the game by mercy rule in the fifth when Wesley Williams scored on a wild pitch.

Gates, Hunt, Hubbard, Dukes, Swanson, Harrington, Fuller and Williams all had a hit apiece as the offense was spread around for the Cavaliers.

Hubbard got the start on the mound and was almost perfect, allowing just one hit on 11 strikeouts in five dominant innings of work.

Callaway bounced back nicely from its first loss in the last 13 games last time out to improve to 13-3 overall and 8-1 in region play. The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday with a home game against non-region opponent Westminster.
