It was a breeze for the Troup baseball team on Thursday as they swept a doubleheader against Riverdale for a couple of important region wins.

The rain did little to demper the spirits of the Tigers on the road as they finished the games in just two innings and for innings of play, respectively.

 

GAME ONE:

TROUP – 21

RIVERDALE – 0

 

The Tigers put the hammer down early in game one, scoring nine runs in the first inning before adding 12 more in the second to close out the game.

Garrison Edwards put on a show and was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. He finished the game 3-for-3 with five RBIs and three runs scored. 

Chandler Glisson also had a strong showing from the plate, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Jake Richardson also had two hits while Fisher Baltzell and Landon Wilson registered a hit each.

Ethan Goff got the start on the mound and pitched both innings, allowing no hits on five strikeouts.

 

GAME TWO:

TROUP – 16

RIVERDALE – 0

 

Troup coach Tanner Glisson used a heavily rotated side in game two and the team still had no problems on the diamond. The only slight step back was the fact that this game lasted four innings instead of two.

Troup scored just one run in the first inning courtesy of Haden May scoring on an error.

It would not take the Tigers long to blow the game open as they scored nine runs in the second to take a commanding 10-0 lead. The Tigers dudes four more in the third and two in the fourth to close out the game in style.

While game one was Edwards’ show, game two was all about the dominance of Baltzell. He was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI on offense and also put in a dominant showing on the mound as well. Baltzell pitched all four innings for Troup, striking out eight and not allowing a single hit.

Baltzell was joined in the two-hit column by Keagan Monk. Tripp Cummings, Samari Pope, Carson Williams, and Richardson all had a hit each for the Troup offense.

Troup is now 11-8 overall and 3-3 in region play. The Tigers will host Fayette County on Friday for a region doubleheader.
