Football is life for Charles Davis and he gets to continue his journey on the gridiron. The Troup senior signed to play at Warner University on Tuesday.

“I always wanted to play at the next level, but for a while, I didn’t think I had the talent and the skills to go that far,” Davis said. “The feeling just felt right when I went down to Warner for a visit. Florida feels like it could be a new home for me.”

Troup football helped build Charles Davis from a kid that felt the pressures of the world on his shoulders, to a confident hard-working young man that turned his life around in his four years at the school.

“He was chosen as a leader on the team by his teammates this year,” Troup football coach Tanner Glisson said. “I don’t use this term much but he is a self-made man and Charles has had a lot of duties and responsibilities thrust on him at an early age and he has handled that all well. Charles came up like most young men do as a ninth grader, very immature in a lot of areas outside of football, in the classroom and things of that nature. And he really got it together as a 10th 11th grader and made the honor roll several times as upperclassmen.”

Glisson has been in Davis’ corner for quite some time which has meant the world to him.

“He has been like a father to me and has always taken care of me,” Davis said. “He has always pushed me and made sure I was on the right track.”

Davis missed a couple of games during his senior season but was still able to finish fourth on the team in tackles with 33 and tied for third on the team with 3.5 tackles for a loss. It was a productive season for Davis, but the recruiting process was still a difficult one to wade through.

“The recruitment was tough at first because I really had a tough time making a decision, but I ended up finding the right match and the right fit for me,” Davis said.

Davis is a natural defensive lineman and that is where he will find himself lining up at the next level. It was not always his natural position, but eventually, he found a home on the football field in the trenches.

“I played fullback for a little while and coach gave me a chance to play quarterback for one play to score on a two-point conversion,” Davis said, laughing. “I will never forget when he put me in for one play at quarterback.”
