Callaway baseball saw its season come to an end at the hands of North Cobb Christian for the second straight season.

After an electric marathon of a game one that went 10 innings, the Callaway Cavaliers could not find a rhythm in game two with their backs against the wall and fell to exit the playoffs.

 

GAME TWO:

CALLAWAY – 2

NORTH COBB – 12

 

Game one featured heroics and suspense which was completely absent from game two. The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one before blowing the game open in the second inning, scoring 10 runs to push Callaway to the brink.

The Cavaliers were left stunned and could never recover with shoulders and heads dropping in the dugout after North Cobb’s second-inning barrage.

The game was deadlocked at 12-0 until the bottom of the fourth when Callaway finally got on the board. In his final game with the Cavaliers, Brantin Swanson hit a single to drive in a run.

Callaway added a second run in the bottom of the fifth when Bryce Hubbard hit a double that drove in a run.

Blake Harrington got the start on the mound and pitched just 1 ⅓ innings before being replaced by Slade Hunt, who got just one out before senior Hubbard came out on the mound for one final time in red and black. Hunter Brown pitched the final three innings.

Offense was tough to come by in game one, but game two was even more of a struggle from the plate for the Cavaliers.

Wesley Williams, Hubbard and Brantin had a hit each for the Cavaliers.

 

GAME ONE:

CALLAWAY – 3

NORTH COBB – 4

 

It was a 10-inning marathon in game one that produced all sorts of fireworks. The Cavaliers were left heartbroken after North Cobb hit a 2-run walk-off homer that cannoned off the top of the wall and went over the fence.

Just a half inning before, it looked like Callaway had scored what could possibly be the winning run. Lashun Gates was able to score on a throwing error to put Callaway three outs away from victory, but it was not to be.

The Eagles struck first in the game, taking a 1-0 lead after the second inning. North Cobb doubled its lead in the bottom of the fifth with a run.

Callaway kept fighting and eventually scored two runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game. Bryce Hubbard grounded out to drive home the first run before Julian Dukes laid down a gutsy two-out bunt that sent the tying run home.

Hubbard and Blake Harrington led the offense with two hits each while Gates, Dukes, Brody Swanson, Slade Hunt and Cass Fuller all had a hit apiece.

Brantin Swanson got the start on the mound and pitched a dominant 7 ⅔ innings, striking out five while allowing just one earned run and four hits. Hubbard saw over an inning of work in relief on the mound.
