The 2024 Callaway soccer season has reached its end, but the individual accolades are pouring in. The Cavaliers had six boys and seven girls named to the All-Region teams for Region 5-2A.
For the boys, it was four players named to the first team. The unit was led by senior Greyson Batchelor, who was also named the 2A player of the year, GACA All-State and a DiVarsity All-Star. He was joined on the team by fellow senior Jounee Jordan, who signed to play soccer at Andrew College in the fall.
The Cavaliers also had a pair of sophomores make the first team in Jayden Bailey and Rickey Vaughn. Bailey came into his own in the middle of the park while Vaughn continued his hot start to life on the soccer pitch at Callaway on the wing.
Both of these players will be required to take another step forward next season.
The boys team also had two members named to the second team — sophomore Brayden Morris and junior Christian Cook. Morris was also named the team’s most improved player as the goalkeeper made a ton of progress from his freshman season to his sophomore. Cook took some time off from soccer but returned this season and was a huge part of the Callaway midfield.
Angel Vasquez, Andre Molina and Darius Kimbrough were all named to the honorable mention list.
The girls team had one more of their players make the all-region teams than their male counterparts. The Cavaliers saw three of their girls — Mary Kate Baswell, Sofia Flores and Aylin Ulloa — make the first team. Baswell was the team’s most impactful player this season and will be applying her craft at LaGrange College in the fall. Baswell was also named as one of the team’s two DiVaristy All-Stars.
Flores, just a freshman, is one of the most talented players to come through the Callaway system in recent memory and will only be getting better from here. It has been a steady rise for Ulloa, who enjoyed her best season as a Cavalier during her senior campaign.
The girls also had four named to the second team. Kadence Leithleiter led the way for the second team and was named as a DiVarsity All-Star as well. The defensive midfielder will be playing alongside Baswell next year at LaGrange College.
Kadence was joined on the second team by her younger sister Alayna. The sophomore goalkeeper was the Cavaliers’ breakout player this season. Senior defender Deyany Velasquez and sophomore forward Isla Garcia were also named to the second team alongside the Leithleiter sisters.
