In the runoff election on Tuesday, James Thraillkill has defeated incumbent Ellis Cadenhead for the Republican nomination for the Troup County Commissioner for District 2.
Thrailkill won by a resounding margin, earning 1,318 (65.90%) votes to Cadenhead’s 682 (34.1%). The results are unofficial but all precincts have reported in, including early voting and mail-in results.
Thrailkill was happy with the results but more glad that the primary race was over.
“I’m glad it’s over. It was an experience. I’ve never one anything like this before. I just put the faith in the people and it went the way it went. I’m very thankful for my support, all the people that helped me and all the people who voted for me,” Thrailkill said.
With the Republican nomination in hand, Thrailkill will face Democratic nominee Andrew Moody for the seat in November.
Cadenhead took the results in stride, joking that he may have “won by losing.”
“It’s been a great run,” he said, thanking his supporters, including those who helped elect him to two terms as a commissioner.
