Founded in 2022, the eight-voice group STELLARUM performs without a conductor, singing mostly unaccompanied repertoire drawn from centuries of rich choral tradition. With well-received performances throughout the year, STELLARUM has shared diverse programs with audiences across the region.
The group’s members – all of whom have strong connections with LaGrange – have a mix of professional backgrounds, including in the fields of church music, performance, conducting, composing, secondary, and higher education. Emphasizing the especially intimate, unifying nature of a cappella choral singing and the mission to share the choral art with as many audiences as possible, STELLARUM’s motto from the beginning has been ‘eight voices, one heart’
Their exciting summer program on July 14 takes a musical journey, from a reflection on the Marian tradition – Mary, as the mother of Christ – through a set of Lenten-themed pieces on the nature of sacrifice, and finally to a set of works that capture the celebratory nature of the Resurrection.
Presented in the beautiful Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange on Sunday, July 14 at 6 p.m. the program lasts approximately one hour and admission is free.
