It is going to be a hot one this weekend. With heatwaves across the country, the Southeast will become the next victim of high temperatures.
The National Weather Services’ local office in Peachtree City said the LaGrange area is expected to see high temperatures in the mid to upper 90s during the days. There is an 80 percent chance Sunday temperatures will reach 100 degrees in areas around Columbus. The heat index, how it actually feels outside, is expected to be over 100 degrees that day.
While it will cool off slightly at night, the NWS predicts that night temperatures will still be warm, hanging around the mid to high 70s. A post from the Weather Service states, “Warm overnights prevent the human body from cooling down and recovering effectively before the heat of the next day—this is especially true in urban areas and/or for those without air conditioning.”
It is advised to take frequent water breaks if outdoors this weekend. Wearing light-colored and loose-fitting clothing can help keep body temperatures low.
Pointing electric fans toward yourself in rooms that are hotter than 90 degrees is not advised. The dry blowing air will dehydrate you faster.
