With the recent change in leadership at the Troup County Marshal’s Office with former Troup County Sheriff’s Office Major Keith Flory being named the new chief marshal, changes were needed at TCSO too.
Sheriff James Woodruff has since promoted Lt. Jeff Duran to Major of Operations for the Troup County Sheriff’s Office. Duran will succeed Flory who officially takes over as chief marshal on Wednesday.
Major Duran began his career with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office in 2004.
“I never dreamed that I would ever be in this position 20 years ago,” Duran said. “I’m excited.”
During his time with the county, Duran has worked in the jail division, court services, patrol, criminal investigations and most recently heading up the Office of Professional Standards for TCSO.
Major of Operations is the third highest ranking officer at TCSO, behind only Sheriff James Woodruff and Chief Deputy Jon Whitney.
Major Duran is a defensive tactics instructor, and CVSA examiner and recently received his State of Georgia general instructor certification. Since 2013 he has also served on the Georgia Internal Affairs Investigators Association in various roles.
Duran also serves as a local minister, pastoring at Friendship Baptist Church.
“It’s been a long journey but I have been blessed,” Duran said.
Duran said TCSO will likely open up his former position so that people can apply for it within a week or so.
