The Friends of the Thread nonprofit group is set to host the 5th annual Dancing for The Thread fundraiser dancing competition.
The event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Callaway Conference Center in LaGrange.
The Thread is a multi-use trail that weaves through the city of LaGrange. It allows for foot traffic, recreation, special events, and wellness within the community. When completed, The Thread is projected to provide over 30 miles of interconnected greenways, side paths and pocket parks traversing the city.
The Dancing for The Thread event is the largest fundraiser held each year by the Friends of The Thread group. Friends of The Thread is the 501(c)3 nonprofit that oversees the development, fundraising, neighborhood involvement and more in relation to the trail.
Money raised from the event goes toward continued maintenance of the trail.
Friends of The Thread Executive Director Natalie Hale said a segment of Thread that will complete a loop and connect the trail to Mulberry Park Cemetery is nearing completion. The next segment will extend the trail from George Harris Park to the intersection of South Davis Road and Upper Big Springs Road with the eventual goal of looping the trail around the planned Willie Edmondson Park at Ridley Lake.
Four couples are set to compete during the annual dance competition. Fans of The Thread can vote for their favorite couple via monetary donations at https://thethreadtrail.salsalabs.org/galaregister2024/index.html where every dollar equals one vote for the couple.
This year’s competitors include Elizabeth and Brock Barber, Eliza and Joseph Erickson, Sidney and Dexter Evans and Christina and John Morgan Jackson.
Half of the couple’s scores will come from judges scoring of their dancing and half will come from their fundraising. Hale said it’s really about the fundraising.
As of press time, tickets are still available. Tickets are $100, which includes dinner and drinks. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit thethreadtrail.org.
The event will also be live-streamed through the City of LaGrange’s LGTV website at http://www.lgtv.org/Home/LaGrangeTVDancing for The Thread will be held Saturday, Aug. 17 starting at 7 p.m. at the Callaway Conference Center located at 220 Fort Drive in LaGrange.
