LaGrange hit the road to South Georgia on Saturday to take part in a softball tournament hosted by the Lee County Trojans. The Grangers knocked off the hosts in style before taking their first loss of the season in the second game of a doubleheader.
GAME ONE:
LaGrange – 18
Lee County – 10
The Grangers rode a monster 14-run second inning to beat the tournament hosts in the opening game.
LaGrange jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Kimberly Reynolds got the action started when she scored on a passed ball. Hudson Wood hit a sacrifice fly to drive home the second run of the inning before an error allowed a third run to score.
The Trojans struck back with three runs in the bottom of the first to tie the game up.
LaGrange would answer right back with 14 runs in the top of the first to take a commanding 17-3 lead. Carolyne Garcia hit a two-run double to put the Grangers back out in front. An error allowed Garcia to score the third run of the inning. Siggers kept the fun going with a one-run single. LaGrange would go on to add 10 more runs in the inning.
Lee County struck back with six runs in the bottom of the second but it did little to dent the momentum for the away team. The team’s traded a pair of runs later in the game, but the Trojans never threatened the LaGrange lead after the second inning.
Jasia Swanson had a field day, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the offensive charge for LaGrange. Reynolds, Siggers, Wood, Dakota McDaniel and Tatum Nation all had two hits apiece while Addyson Arnett and Abby McGill had one each.
Kaylee Foster got the start in the circle and three three innings before making way for Zoe Thompson.
GAME TWO:
LAGRANGE – 0
TIFT COUNTY – 9
A heavily changed side from game one could not keep up the momentum from game one as LaGrange took its first loss of the season, falling 9-0.
The Blue Devils jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the second inning before adding one more in the third and four more in the fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead. Tift County would go into trigger the mercy rule with more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Granger bats which have been on fire to start the season went cold as the team could muster just three hits in the game, one each from McGill, Siggers and Wood.
Thompson got the start in the circle before making way for Foster.
WHAT’S NEXT:
LaGrange (4-1) will play two road region games next week, starting with Spalding on Tuesday before heading to Sandy Creek on Thursday.
