The Troup softball program needed a victory on Tuesday after two straight tough losses. The Tigers got just that when they toppled Fayette County 11-1 at home for an important region victory.

It was Fayette County that took the first lead of the game, however, scoring a run in the top of the first. Troup would quickly respond with four runs in the bottom of the first to take a lead that the team would never surrender. Kaitlyn Smalley hit a sacrifice fly to drive home the first run for Troup and tie the game. An error allowed Camdyn Bassett to score and double the Troup lead. Kaylee Umfress and Gracie Baker hit back-to-back one-run singles later in the inning to make it 4-0.

Troup was able to extend its lead and put it out of reach with six runs in the third inning. Olivia Damron opened her account on the night with a one-run triple. Umfress followed with a double to drive Damron home. Cayleigh Godfrey and Kaylee Cardwell hit back-to-back sacrifice flies to drive home the third and fourth runs of the inning. Smalley doubled to drive home the following run before Bassett drove home the final run of the inning with a single.

Troup would tack on one additional run in the fourth when Baker grounded out to send Damron home.

Umfress, Damron, Baker and Sheniyah Philpot all had two hits apiece to lead the offense for the home team. Cardwell, Smalley, Bassett and Zoe Graham all got in on the fun with a hit each.

Umfress got the start in the circle, pitching a dominant five-inning complete game in which she struck out five batters while allowing just one hit and no earned runs.

Troup is now 2-4 overall on the season and 2-1 in region play. The Tigers will return to action on Saturday to take on Callaway and LaGrange at Shuford Fields in the Hope For a Day tournament.
