Bikers in LaGrange can rejoice as they no longer have to go out of town to get their gear.

On Wednesday, the LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce celebrated the opening of Biker Gear of LaGrange.

The biker gear shop is unique to LaGrange and the surrounding area. That’s why he started the store, said owner Bob Ullom.

Ullom said the closest place to get biker gear is 40-plus miles away. He said he had been driving to Warm Springs to buy his gear when he realized he should open a closer shop.

“The last time I went down there, I needed to buy some motorcycle helmets, and before I got out of there, it was $500 less in my billfold. I thought, ‘Why isn’t there not a place closer to us?’” Ullom said.

He said he knows plenty of people in the area that ride motorcycles that potentially need gear so a local shop seemed like a good idea.

“I go to church in Grantville with a lot of people that ride, so this gives us a little closer option to come and get the gear that they need,” he said.

Ullom noted that the logo for the shop, which features a motorcyclist on a green bike, is actually his pastor.

Ullom grew up in Ohio but has been here since 2016.

“I moved to the South in 1969. Had a full career with the Atlanta Fulton County Fire Department as a Fire Medic. I retired in 1998 and left in 2010 to take care of my dad in Ohio until he passed away. We’ve been back here since 2016,” Ullom said.

Ullom is no stranger to motorcycles. He said he has been riding for 20 years.

“I started out on a Harley, I’ve probably had 10 different motorcycles since then,” he said.

Ullom said the shop specializes in leather gear but they have other types, flannels and rain gear.

“It’s mostly leather, leather vests, jackets, chaps, gloves and boots, and some accessories, patches,” Ullom said. “We sew on patches for people here. We’re selling a good bit of those.”

He said they are working to open an online shop as well.

“The company that supplies us is out of Baltimore, and they’ve kind of been helping me along to get the online store started. I’m signed up now with Amazon Prime. They’ve got a fair amount of inventory at some point in the next week or so headed toward one of their warehouses,” Ullom said.

Biker Gear of LaGrange is located at 104-D Sage Commercial Drive off of West Point Road in LaGrange. The store is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and noon to 8 p.m. on Thursdays.
