Doyce Willene Tillery Amos, loving mother, died July 5, 2024 at the age of 97.
Doyce was born July 22, 1926 in Phenix City, Alabama, to W.H. (Bill) and Thelma Sanders Tillery.
Growing up in LaGrange, GA. she graduated from LHS in 1944, and attended colleges in FL and NC, graduating from UNC-G in 1977.
She enjoyed tutoring, volunteering, serving as a Contact worker and was a member of Association for
Couples in Marriage Enrichment. Doyce was an activist court watcher with the North
Carolinians Against Intoxicated Drivers, and served in church ministries in Florida and North Carolina.
The joy of her life was her family and friends and being a homemaker.
Doyce was a dedicated Christian rejoicing in sharing God’s love with others and was blessed by being a part of Intercessory Prayer groups.
Following a near death experience in 1964, she was certain that she would walk into the presence of the Living Lord.
Doyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Al Lester Amos, of Winston- Salem, brothers W.H. (Buddy) Tillery of Carlsbad, NM, Dr. Don E. Tillery of Winter Park, FL, Ajalon A. Tillery of Belleview, FL; and sisters Shirley T. Reese of Americus, GA, and Betty Joyce Tillery, of Auburn, AL.
Doyce is survived by their five precious sons, David McBride (Winnie) and Michael John of Winston-Salem, James Henry (Marcia) of Ocoee, FL, Stephen Lester of Austin, TX, and Dr. Robert Jonathan of Greensboro, NC, as well as a grandson, Shawn, of San Francisco, CA.
In addition, many dear nephews, nieces and in-laws, Godson, Jim Tillery, of Greensboro, NC and other relatives and friends.
She chose to donate her body to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for research.
Doyce Willene Tillery Amos will be remembered in a future private memorial service.
