On Wednesday, St. Peter’s Catholic Church held its annual Blue Mass on the 23rd anniversary of 9/11 to honor and pray for all the first responders in our area. The Mass gets its name from police blue, but all law enforcement and first responders are invited. 

The homily was from Mark 4: 35-41, where the disciples woke Jesus, who was asleep in the boat during a storm. Jesus said “Why are you frightened? Do you not yet have faith?” Fr. Tim stated “Jesus is always with us, even in the middle of our storms. We just need to pray and lean on him, and he will calm the sea.”

During the service, Fr. Tim gave the first responders precious stone pocket crosses to remind them that God’s peace is always with them even in the middle of their storms.

The new Trail Life Troop at St. Peter’s was the color guard for the Mass, carrying the American flag, and the Roman Catholic Church flag. Fr. Tim stated it is very important for the children to experience patriotism and pride in our country, especially during these times. 

At the end of the service, Sheriff Woodruff and Chief Fiveash thanked St. Peter’s for their support and prayers. Afterward, first responders and parishioners socialized and enjoyed refreshments at the reception in the Parish Hall.

The Blue Mass has been a tradition at St. Peter’s since 2017, when Fr. Tim became pastor.
