West Point Depot agreement finalized

The new rental parameters for the West Point train depot were approved during the West Point city council meeting on Monday. The depot has been closed since the beginning of 2024 to restructure the rental agreement of the city-owned venue.
The new policy states:
- Alcohol is allowed for weddings, wedding receptions and non-profit fundraising events only.
- Nonprofits must provide proof of 501c3 status.
- A security staff person, not a city employee, will be on site for set up and the event.
- There will be no sale of alcohol products at any events.
- All events will end at 10 p.m. ET.
- There will be no ticket sales or charge for entry at the door of any kind.
- Events that violate the rental policy will be required to cease operation.
- The city reserves the right to deny any application based on false or misleading information or any social media post or other advertising that is in violation of the policy.
- All rentals will go from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET.
The rental rates were also updated, with reduced prices for non-profit organizations.
- Weekends (Friday, Saturday or Sunday): $2800 with a deposit of $1400; for non-profit it is $2000 with a deposit of $1,100.
- Weekdays (Monday through Thursday): $1500 with a deposit of $750; for nonprofits it is $1,000 with $500 deposit.
Meghan Richardson, director of the West Point economic development, finished the meeting with an announcement of an upcoming river paddle clean-up. The event will be in partnership with the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper. The clean up will go from Hardley Creek to downtown West Point and will run from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. ET on Oct. 18.
Councilman Jerry Ledbetter added his condolences to the family of Johnny Allen, Lanett’s Fire Captain, who passed away recently.
