The Grangers are finding their groove. The LaGrange football team earned its second win in a row and its first road win of the season by annihilating hapless Fayette County 42-3 on Friday night.

It was a breeze for the Grangers, who built that 42-3 lead heading into half time. LaGrange emptied the bench in the second half which also featured a running clock.

All the Granger fans who made the trip up the road were treated to the Malachi Fannin-Render show. The senior star running back showed his versatility on Friday and scored four touchdowns, two rushing, one receiving and one punt return for a touchdown.

Despite it being Fannin-Render’s day, it was his running mate in the backfield, Caydin Thomas, who scored the opening touchdown to put LaGrange up 7-0 with under two minutes off the clock. Fayette County won the coin toss and elected to receive first which backfired immediately when they muffed the opening kickoff and LaGrange recovered.

Outside of a 60-yard play that set up the Tigers’ only points of the day in the first quarter, the Granger defense was in complete control. It started from the offset when senior defensive lineman Spencer Stroud, who is having a breakout season, got a sack on the first defensive play of the game for the Grangers.

A little over two minutes after Thomas’ touchdown, Fannin-Render got his first of the night on a long touchdown run.

Fannin-Render would get his receiving touchdown on a touch pass from Dylan Barber. The junior quarterback did not have to do much on the pass to Fannin-Render, but he is really coming into his own in his first year as the starter.

Fayette County got on the board late in the first quarter with a field goal, but the LaGrange lead was still 18 points and the team was hungry for more. This was evident when Fannin-Render scampered down the sideline and returned a punt for a touchdown early in the second quarter.

Barber threw his second touchdown of the half to Kalvin Snowberger to put LaGrange up 35-3.

Fannin-Render punctuated a monster game for him and the Grangers when he scored a 90-yard rushing touchdown with just over three minutes in the half.

After a resounding performance from the LaGrange marching band at halftime, the Grangers fans got to clear out early as a running clock in the second half meant that the final two quarters lasted about 30 minutes in real time.

Lagrange improved to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the region. The Grangers will be at Spalding next Thursday for a crucial region matchup.
