Fly fishermen, from novices to experts, are invited to participate in the 2024 Fly Fishing Film Tour Weekend in LaGrange.
The three-day weekend event will feature a collection of award-winning fishing short films as part of the 18th annual Fly Fishing Film Tour (F3T), along with a full weekend of fly fishing events.
Fishing Guide Kent Edmonds of FlyFishGA helped organize the event with Maggie McDonald, owner of Pure Life House of Music.
The annual film tour was shown last year at Pure Life Music and included a day of fly-fishing exhibits. This year, the event is expanding to three days and multiple locations, with door prizes, live music and food and beverages.
The weekend will kick off Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at the Truitt Vanderbilt Club in LaGrange, where demo tables will be staffed by fishing guides and experienced anglers to answer questions about equipment, knots, tactics and where to fish locally.
“We’ll have a casting area set about on the yard with a casting obstacle course that’s good for either total newbies or experienced folks and we’ll have fly tyers demoing and teaching fly tying and fly casting,” Edmonds said.
Edmonds said representatives from the Boy Scouts will also be there so that scouts can work toward their fly fishing merit badge.
Later on in the afternoon, from 4 to 6 p.m., they will have live music from Leon Majcen and Nick Mayfield, along with free appetizers from Nutwood Winery.
Edmonds said both events at Truitt Vanderbilt are free to enter, but there will be a charge for beer and wine during the afternoon event.
The event will continue into Sunday at Pure Life House of Music in LaGrange from 12 to 6 p.m. The second day will include more fly fishing fun with local artists, guides and fishing outfitters. The annual Fly Fishing Film Tour will also be shown, which includes some of the best fly fishing films in the world, starting at 2:30 p.m.
The Pure Life event will also feature more live music, tacos from Taqueria Estrella Roja and beverages from beverages from Beacon Brewery, along with door prizes and more.
Tickets for the second day of events are $25.
The final day of the event, Monday is designated as fishing day, where participants can go out and fish, either with a guide or on their own, with some suggestions from all the different pros that’ll be around Saturday and Sunday.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper and the Flint Riverkeeper, who help preserve, protect and restore local waterways.
